ESCULTURAS SOBRE EL MAR HELADO - SCULPTURES ON THE FROZEN SEA
Durante las últimas décadas se ha perdido gran parte del hielo en el Ártico, y en especial en Groenlandia, debido al aumento de temperatura en el planeta.
Los cambios en el clima ártico afectarán a todo el planeta, al provocar un aumento del calentamiento global y del nivel del mar. Las ciudades que se ubican en las costas de todo el mundo estarán en peligro.
Grandes bloques de hielo se desprenden de los glaciares de Groenlandia, el espesor y longitud de la banquisa cada vez es menor y se rompe antes. Los bloques de glaciares y fragmentos de banquisa caen a la deriva flotando sobre el mar en forma de icebergs, derritiéndose gradualmente.
En Groenlandia, la banquisa de hielo sobre el mar que rodea la gran isla, permite la comunicación en invierno y primavera, entre las pequeñas islas que la rodean. Cada año es más fina e insegura, y su longitud es menor.
La banquisa se forma en invierno, por congelación del mar, apresando los icebergs que permanecían navegando a la deriva durante el verano.
Los icebergs desprendidos de los grandes glaciares de Groenlandia, que aparecen en las imágenes, provienen del noroeste, de la región de Qaanaaq, en primavera, pocas semanas antes que se rompa la banquisa y queden liberados y a la deriva en el mar.

Large blocks of ice break off from Greenland's glaciers. The ice floe thins and shortens, breaking off sooner. Blocks of glaciers and fragments of ice floe drift over the sea in the form of icebergs, gradually melting.
The ice floe on the sea surrounding Greenland allows for communication between the small islands that surround it in winter and spring. Every year the ice floe is thinner, shorter and more fragile.
The ice floe is formed in winter by the sea freezing, trapping the icebergs that remain drifting during the summer.
The icebergs detached from Greenland's large glaciers, shown in the images, come from the northwest, from the Qaanaaq region, in spring, a few weeks before the ice floe breaks up. The icebergs are released and drift out to sea.
